Upcoming Louisiana Election

Here at Trinity, we rarely talk politics, elections, or law. Not that we don’t think those things are important, they certainly are. However, the majority of political issues are actually out of our control and in the hands of our elected officials, and ultimately God. As Jesus said in Matthew 6, “Do not be anxious about your life… But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” However, when we have an opportunity to vote on issues that do affect the “kingdom of God,” we want to make sure you know what is going on so that you can exercise your right to vote.

On March 29, there is an election across Louisiana. Part of the ballot will include four proposed amendments to the state constitution, and the proposed Amendment No. 2 includes a provision that, if passed, would significantly reduce the constitutional protection from cities imposing property taxes on churches and other non-profit organizations. A vote for Amendment No. 2 would open up TLC to potential future property taxes on our preschool, the Big House, and our portable classrooms (the sanctuary alone would still be exempt).

Please understand the purpose of this note. Neither the Board of Directors nor the Pastor is telling you how to vote on this issue. But it is your right to know and vote accordingly. Further detail and discussion can be found in the below-linked article from one of our local newspapers:
